KPOM and Yimei Team Up on Mill Wastewater Treatment
Milling palm oil takes a lot of water, and every day of processing at KPOM leaves behind a large volume of wastewater, known in the industry as palm oil mill effluent (POME). Treating it properly is one of the most important responsibilities we have as a mill.
To do that, KPOM has teamed up with Yimei Environment Protection (yimei.my). Yimei’s treatment equipment is now in operation at our mill in Keningau.

The treatment plant from the air
The plant sits beside the mill, surrounded by oil palms. Wastewater flows through a series of concrete treatment basins, with Yimei’s blue treatment units housed under the covered shed in front.

Under the shed, chemical dosing tanks feed the treatment units, and skimmers on the flotation tanks continuously remove the sludge that collects on the surface, separating solids from the water.

Better together
For KPOM, this means our mill wastewater is treated on site with equipment built for the job. For Yimei, KPOM is a working example of what its equipment can do at a palm oil mill.
